Non-GST Invoice Format for Freelancers: A Practical Checklist
A strong freelancer invoice gives the client everything needed to approve payment without pretending to be a GST document. Keep the format consistent, easy to scan and explicit about the amount due.
The essential fields
Start with a sequential invoice number and dates. Identify both parties, describe the completed work, show quantity and rate, state the final amount, and provide bank or UPI instructions. Include payment terms so the due date is unambiguous.
How to handle TDS
Your invoice shows the gross fee agreed with the client. If the client deducts TDS, record the cash received and TDS amount separately rather than changing the original invoice value. This keeps revenue, bank receipts and tax certificates reconcilable.
Make repeat billing faster
Save recurring clients and services to a catalog. Reusing accurate details prevents spelling mistakes, inconsistent pricing and missing payment information on the next invoice.
